AVAST VS WEBROOT VS NORTON PASSWORD
The Norton suite is enhanced by tools such as a VPN, password manager, smart firewall, parental controls and cloud backup service and offers a 100% virus protection promise. Its near-perfect scores on various test parameters demonstrate its skill in countering malware threats. A reboot seems to be the only way to restart the Bitdefender process.Ĭhecking on the Bitdefender forum suggests that high RAM usage by vsserv.exe has been a recurring if occasional issue for several years and has not really been resolved.Norton has been around for more than 30 years and has built up a robust reputation over the years. (The pagefile size was ample.) Killing the process (which in itself is a bit scary that I could simply kill it) freed up the memory and immediately restored the PC to snappy operation. A trip to Task Manager revealed that the Bitdefender process vsserv.exe was hogging close to 4GB of the machine’s 6GB of RAM. The computer was being inordinately slow to open the Start menu, to close Explorer windows, and to open new ones. However, I had my first problem with BDF this week on one Windows 7 PC. I, too, am generally happy with Bitdefender Free.

It appears to use the same highly regarded AV engine as the paid version, without all of the bloat. Been using it for a few years without any issues. No fuss, plug and play, set and forget, it just does what it says on the label.
AVAST VS WEBROOT VS NORTON PRO
I use Bitdefender Free on the last Windows 7 Pro box that I am running. I was using Avira Pro previously, but they also seem to have joined the bloated herd of nanny ware, even with their free or basic and paid AV. I really wanted to pay for a reliable bloat free commercial AV, but sadly those seem to no longer be available. So I then asked for, and received a refund under their money back guarantee. Last year I upgraded from Bitdefender Free to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus on Win10, hoping that BD AV plus was configurable, so that I could avoid any bloat. Running Windows Defender right now, but considering re-installing Bitdefender Free.
AVAST VS WEBROOT VS NORTON WINDOWS 10
On my Windows 10 Pro 20H2 box I am conflicted between that, and Windows Defender. No fuss, plug and play, set and forget, it just does what it says on the label.īeen using it for a few years without any issues.

There is a thread in the Webroot community were it was said that Webroot still supports Windows XP and this statement: “I’ve spoken with our Product Managers about this and to our knowledge, we have no plans of discontinuing support for Windows 7 any time in the near future.” Avast, Bitdefender, and F-Secure plan to support Windows 7 through January 2022: Windows 7 is currently at a 16% market share and Windows 10 at a 78% market share. Yes, Avast will nag you every day to upgrade, but that is the price we pay for using the free version. If any of the latter, then I unselect it and proceed with Change to remove it, otherwise just close the Change window. After installation, I go to Programs and Features, select Avast, and then select Change to see what was installed, and if anything I did not select was also installed. Attached is a screenshot of the components I select. It can be customized with just the minimum components. Maybe something like Norton endpoint security (I don’t even know if they still make this)
AVAST VS WEBROOT VS NORTON INSTALL
I was going to look into Bitdefender and F-Secure but thought I would see if anyone could put me on another path as all of these consumer products are about the same (some of them are so dumbed-down they only have one-click installers and are not even letting you do a custom install any longer) Thinking maybe a business product would be better as the all the home products appear to be the same Have Webroot installed on a test machine (it is Ok but don’t love it) Looked at, or tried, and definitely don’t want McAfee, Avast, Norton, Kaspersky, Avira I’ve tried several products recently and dislike them all. I was quite happy with the very early versions of Avast (V2-V2015) but now the product is totally bloated and the company is just terrible to deal with.
AVAST VS WEBROOT VS NORTON UPDATE
Im looking for a small footprint antivirus program that doesn’t have all of the other bloat garbage that most of the companies are adding now (I don’t need a VPN, software update utility, network scanner, game optimizer, etc) and it should highly configurable (not just dumbed-down UI like most of the products have now).
